Job Description:
As an FPGA focused Field Applications Engineer, you will engage with clients to create high value technical solutions, helping clients to reduce cost, reduce risk, and increase profitability, while mutually contributing to the success of Microchip Technology.

The primarily customer engagement role is to win designs and drive the designs to revenue at large accounts by providing in-depth engineering support. This includes creating demonstration or proof-of-concept designs to end customers. Visiting, training, and advising customers is also part of the job responsibilities. Must be willing to travel to receive training or to support other regions as needed.

Job Responsibilities
  • Utilize your experience with FPGAs, embedded C, software, hardware, and development tools to provide clients with excellent support and debugging during their development cycles and escalate to internal engineering teams where appropriate.
  • Be an authority on all phases of programmable logic design, including requirements analysis, HDL code development and simulation, embedded hard and soft processor system design, synthesis optimizations, place and route constraints, timing closure, board-level schematic reviews, and FPGA hardware development and debug tools.
  • Utilize Microchip's Client Engagement Process to drive design wins to revenue at select target clients.
  • Use insight and influencing skills to teach clients about their industry and offer unique perspectives on their technology, that link back to Microchip’s solutions.
  • Engage with Sales and Marketing teams to provide pre- and post-sales technical support for all product lines with a primary focus on embedded control, with microcontrollers and all surrounding technologies as a focus.
  • Provide essential communications across functional teams to improve product features and processes, support, and attention to client needs.
  • Support the company’s technical and business relationship with the assigned clients.
  • Identify the key client stakeholders and coach those stakeholders to build consensus for Microchip’s solutions within their organization.
  • Communicate effectively with Microchip product divisions providing quantifiable feedback and ROI for their investments in clients.
  • Contribute and participate within a global team environment, to successfully develop and implement sales strategies across clients, divisions, and geographical locations.
Requirements/Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Science with a strong academic track record.
  • In-depth experience with Microchip, AMD/Xilinx or Intel/Altera FPGA devices and a deep knowledge of Verilog or VHDL languages.
  • Embedded processor experience with knowledge of C, and software debug tools such as Keil, IAR or Eclipse.
  • Experience with Libero, Vivado or Quartus Design Software, as well as EDA tools for FPGA design is required.
  • 8 years relevant work experience, including embedded hardware, software, and development tools.
  • Direct client interfacing and support experience a plus.
  • Must be self-starter and be able to initiate and complete tasks with minimum supervision.
  • Must have strong communication, presentation and organizational skills.
  • Position requires local travel visiting clients throughout New England, periodic longer trips, and availability to travel when the client needs support.
Competencies
  • Experience in embedded control, including microcontroller hardware and software, Microchip experience a plus.
  • Experience in IDE and development tools, Microchip experience a plus.
  • Experience in programming C and software debugging.
  • Additional skills in analog, power electronics, security, wired or wireless, a plus.
  • Experience in the use of oscilloscopes, logic analyzers and protocol analyzers to debug prototype circuitry.
